Unit 4 Modernism/Lit-Comp/Howard Gartrell

The reason why I chose The Harlem Renaissance is because, it involved African Americans in the 1920s and 1930s. It was also known as (the New Negro Movement) and named after the 1925 anthology The New Negro edited by Alain Locke. During 1917 Hubert Harrison, The Father of Harlem Radicalism, founded the Liberty League and The Voice and it was the organization and the first newspaper of the New Negro Movement.

What I liked about the story is that it involved a married couple who had been together for 15 years and at the end of the story his wife is still right by his side.

Basically her husband scared her and laughed after she was scared. He made the remark that she had plenty of time to wash clothes but she chose to work on God's day and her husband saw something wrong with that. As he walks through the door, she notices that he is stepping the clothes, she tells him not to step on the clothes because he putting dirt on the clothes. Later in the story, he brings a snake in the house and suddenly she really scared. In the end of the story, the man is suddenly bitten by the snake a the doctors are very far.

In this poem he basically had everything but he still wasn't happy. When he was around other people, his expression showed that he was happy but inside he was unhappy. Others that he was happy because he probably smiled every time they saw him but when got home it was different.

At the of the poem, its talks about something there is that, it doesn't love a wall. It also says that the work of hunters is another thing and that means that the work that hunters do is different from other things.

I guess that he comparing life to the sun and asking is life dry like a raisin. In other words does life stink like rotten meat or is it sweet like syrup. He also asks, does it sag like a heavy load or does it explodes.

This poem is an example of Disillusionment and The Harlem Renaissance because they both talk about African Americans. The reason why it is Disillusionment is because, Langston is trying to show people that they being tricked by other people and telling them that others did the work of the things that happened on this earth when it was the Africans who did the work.

He starts talking about that he was Baltimore and he was very happy with his heart filled with joy. He noticed a Baltimorean and he smiled, the Baltimorean looked at him and called him the N word. He stayed in Baltimore form May to December and he can't forget the things that happened there.

I think that I met the Georgia Performance Standards by writing my responses and showing evidence to back up my information and I also showed my evidence by copying and pasting where u can find the poems.
